This project was pretty fun to me. In this project we made prototypes of what our new school would look like in our eyes. We were doing this to find out what our new school would look like and consist of. To my knowledge we are the only school in this part of the US to do this with the students. We made blueprints, sketch up models, 3d models, and we also had an exhibition based on it. For the exhibition my group made a music room because we thought that would be something cool to have in our new school. This project was very interesting and it kept me wanting to work.
In this project I learned a lot about sustainable building materials. One example would be concrete it is used in most buildings and its not to pricey for a school. Sustainable building materials have to be made well and not to expensive. We need to be able to buy these materials in bulk without any issues. These materials need to last for years they cant just last for 4 years and need to be replaced. They need to be sturdy because high schools take a lot of abuse the materials need to be sturdy.
The group was good and bad. At the beginning my group was doing ok. About a week after we started one of our group members wasn't doing anything and we couldn't get him to either. Unfortunately because of this we didn't get out budget done. His job was to do this and half of it was already done but he ended up ruining it all and changing everything we already had. If I could have changed something I would have changed it to groups of 3 because we would have more ideas and less overwhelming groups. I have grown as a collaborator by learning that if you have group members that aren't doing their work you need to step up, do the work for them or talk to a teacher.
I really think its important to let students have voices. That made this project ten times better that we got to literally build whatever we wanted. This really made the students feel more into school knowing they could choose what and how their new school would work. The fact we are the only school in this part of the US to do this is something that inspires you even more to enjoy this project. This is because we feel different and special about our school and I feel like it will attract many more students to animas.
